Mandarin is known as putonghua (common language) in China, guoyu (national language) in Taiwan, and as huayu(Chinese language) in Singapore and Malaysia. Mandarin is the most widely spoken language in the World (of more than 1.2 billion), the main language of government, the media and education in China and Taiwan, and one of the four official languages in Singapore.
CAI Mandarin School offers a variety of programs to serve teenagers, adults, businesses and organizations in the Greater Toronto Area. We currently offer private sessions and the following small group classes at our Scarborough location.

CONVERSATIONAL MANDARIN LEVEL ONE
This course is intended for adults who have no or little background/knowledge in Chinese Mandarin. The goal of this course is to provide students with fundamental skills in listening and speaking Mandarin, reading and writing (Hanyu) Pinyin (the Chinese simple phonetic system), and to achieve basic Mandarin skills through a vast amount of practice. Useful expressions as well as basic grammatical rules and background information on China's history, culture and society are also introduced throughout the class.
Date: Sunday February 19, 2012 from 3:00 to 4:30 pm (1 session per week, 1.5 hour per session, total 8 weeks / 12 hours)
Students will:

Master a vocabulary of 800 words
- Be able to identify & reproduce Chinese language sounds
- Grasp the essentials of Chinese grammar
- Carry on simple conversations in Mandarin
- Gain awareness of cultural differences and similarities
- Greet people, shop in the market, place and receive telephone calls, and ask for directions

CONVERSATIONAL MANDARIN LEVEL TWO
This course is designed for students who already have a basic foundation in Mandarin and are able to carry on simple conversations. Lessons present students with a wide variety of communication tasks and cover a greater number of topics than beginner classes.

Students will:
- Master a vocabulary of 1500 words
- Improve their proficiency in daily conversation
- Be able to read and write simple compositions
- Possess a detailed understanding of the structure of the Chinese language

CONVERSATIONAL MANDARIN LEVEL THREE
Classes are conducted mostly in spoken Chinese. Lessons build on the students' existing proficiency, and include practice in speaking, listening, reading, discussion, composition and presentation. Lively narratives, elements of Chinese culture, history, legends, geography, ethical values, discussions of China's modern transformation enrich the course content.
Date: Sunday February 19, 2012 from 4:45 to 6:15 pm (1 session per week, 1.5 hour per session, total 8 weeks / 12 hours)
Students will:
- Master a vocabulary of 2500 words
- Improve their proficiency in daily conversation
- Be able to converse on a variety of topics and express themselves fluently in social situations
- Basic knowlege of Pinyin keyboarding.

CONVERSATIONAL MANDARIN LEVEL FOUR (ADVANCED)
Our advanced classes help students progress toward fluency by expanding their vocabulary and challenging them to adapt to new topics and situations. Classes focus on oral presentations, refined reading and vocabulary skills, and Chinese culture and literature.
Date: Sunday February 19, 2012 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm (1 session per week, 2 hours per session, total 8 weeks / 16 hours)
Students will:
- Master a vocabulary of 3500 words
- Communicate and analyze complex topics
- Be able to interact with others about a wide variety of topics, using Chinese accurately and effectively

CONVERSATIONAL MANDARIN LEVEL FIVE (ADVANCED)
Video and audio presentation will be provided throughout the program. Classes focus on real life listening and speaking experience. Students will be doing vast amount of oral presentations and listening comprehensive exercises, to achieve advanced verbal skills, refined reading and vocabulary skills.
